WHAT. A. NIGHT. Just look at that scoreboard in Winthrop, Iowa. Visitor 86, Home 76. #5 of the Visitors: 2 fouls and 76 points. It's not a misprint and it happened when Nick Reid of Central City scored that astronomical total against East Buchanan in an overtime game last night. The 76 points are the second-most in a game in Iowa High School Boys Basketball history. Oh, and he broke the single-game scoring record in his family, too. More on that later.

Reid, a 6'6" junior at Central City, needed 25 points going into last night's game to become the school's all-time leading scorer. He was only a point short at halftime. According to the Gazette, he netted 38 in the second half and all 12 of Central City's points in overtime for his incredible total of 76 points. That's the second-most ever scored in an Iowa boys game, eight shy of the all-time record set in the 1920s. Nick also set the family mark last night. His mom scored 64 points in a game while playing 6-on-6 high school basketball for Ed-Co in the 1980s.

Nick's night even caught the attention of former Hawkeye and Iowa prep Peter Jok.

In girls high school basketball Monday night, Caitlin Clark of West Des Moines Dowling had her own magical evening, scoring 60 points, one point shy of the Iowa girls 5-on-5 point record. The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union tweeted out their congrats, later apologizing for misspelling Caitlin's first name.

Congrats to these Iowa high schoolers on their amazing nights on the hardwood.
