The Iowa Utilities Board has given MidAmerican Energy the OK to begin a $3.6 billion wind energy project, the largest in the state of Iowa. The project, called the Wind XI Farm, was announced back in April.

MidAmerican says they are finalizing plans to begin construction of 1,000 wind turbines with the project completed by 2019. The Wind XI will include multiple sites across Iowa, but the exact locations are still being worked out.

The entire cost of the project will be paid for through federal production tax credits over 10 years, so no state assistance is needed.
