Iowa Baby Injured at Dad’s Softball Game Is Now Home!
She's home! It's been a long road for McKenna Hovenga and her family since she was hit by a softball in a freak accident in Shell Rock, Iowa on May 2. That was the night, McKenna, then seven-weeks-old was enjoying her first outing (her dad's softball game), when she was hit by a softball that came from behind them, via a field behind the family.
The following week, I chronicled just how serious McKenna's situation was. Two brain bleeds, skull fractures, seizures, and more. She's made an amazing recovery since then. This is McKenna yesterday, buckled up and ready for the trip home from the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
The road hasn't been easy, as these photos clearly show. You can continue to follow her story on the Healing for McKenna Facebook page or on this website. We're so glad she's home!
