So you decided to go with a real tree this Christmas. So did my family. You just can't replicate the smell and authenticity of a real tree during the holidays. But then, Christmas is over and you have to get rid of it. You can't just box it up like the artificial one you've used before. So how and where do you get rid of the tree?

If you live in Marion, like I do, it's fairly simple. Remove all the decorations and lights. Take the tree out of the stand and haul it down to the curb. You're done. In Marion, curbside pickup of trees will continue through January 11th. No flocked trees and make sure the tree is NOT in a bag.

For those of you who live in Cedar Rapids, it's a lot of the same. You can set your undecorated tree out at curbside however, it must not be greater than 2 feet in diameter and you'll need to cut the tree into halves or thirds for pickup. Curbside pickup for trees will go through mid-January. You can also drop off your tree at Sac and Fox Trail parking lot, Bertram Road and Wilder Drive SE, and Prairie Park Fishery on Otis Road SE.
