As a person who worked retail for over 5 years, I know (very well) what it's like to work directly with the general public. That's how I also know that I am not capable of being a server at a restaurant. Being a server takes skill and IMMENSE patience that I just don't possess, which is why I am very appreciative of my servers when I'm out to eat. With the holiday season still upon us and many people hitting up local restaurants, I figured I would share an article with you about ways to make your waiter/waitress love you. Here are some of the basics:

  • Understand what you're ordering: read what's IN the dish before you get it and then complain about it.
  • Politely let the server know if something is wrong so they can fix it for you.
  • Know exactly what "medium rare" means when ordering meat.
  • Put your silverware on your plate when you're finished eating - that way the server knows you're done and it makes clean up easier.
  • Always tip!
