About 40 percent of Americans, 143-million of us, had our personal information taken during a breach of the website for the credit reporting service, Equifax. You would think that, of all websites, there's would be one of the most secure in the world. Uh, apparently not.

Unfortunately, my wife and I are among those who had their information taken. Here's how to find out if yours was too:

  1. Visit the Equifax website HERE.
  2. Enter your last name and the last six digits of your social security number.
  3. Click the "I'm Not a Robot" box
  4. Hit Continue

Unfortunately, here's the response I got:

Based on the information provided, we believe that your personal information may have been impacted by this incident.

So what do you do now? My bank has alerted me that if I'm affected, I should let them know. That's where I'm going to start. Good luck to us all.

Here's a report on actions taken by Equifax.
