I live on the east side of Cedar Rapids and I love it.  However, when it comes to gas prices, I wish I lived on the west side, and I bet I'm not alone. Why is it that there's a large pocket of western Cedar Rapids that always has decidedly lower prices?  It makes no sense to me and never has.

Friday morning, I was on the west side along Edgewood Road.  Two gas stations, on the same road, one-mile apart...thanks to my (not so great) photo-cropping skills, you can see the difference below.  TWELVE cents a gallon.  My total savings at the pump?  $1.32.  The closer to the river you get, the higher the price.

Does anybody have any idea why prices are higher in the eastern part of Cedar Rapids?  If so, I'd love to know.  In the meantime, when you need gasoline I'd follow the advice given long ago during the westward expansion of the U.S and "Go west, young man. Go west."
