Holiday Bowl Might Be Cancelled

Imagine your college team qualifying and accepting a bid to play in a nice warm destination and less than two weeks before the big game, the football players announce they are boycotting all football activities. Seems like a far-fetched Hollywood movie but this is playing out with the Minnesota Golden Gophers.

Thursday night, the Minnesota football players announced they were boycotting all football activities because of the suspensions of 10 teammates earlier this week.

The Minnesota school board did not specify the reasons for the suspensions. Information being leaked out is that the University suspended the players from a Title IX investigation into an alleged sexual assault which happened back in early September.

ESPN reports that senior wide receiver Drew Wolitarsky read a statement that said “the boycott will remain effective until due process is followed and suspensions for all 10 players involved are lifted.”

Head football coach Tracy Claeys showed his support via a tweet on the team's football twitter account:

The game is scheduled for Tuesday night, December 27th in San Diego. The opponent is Washington State. The big question now is, will there be a game?
