It's the beginning of a new football season and every Hawk fan is excited beyond belief! But there are a few game day changes that you need to keep in mind when headed down to Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City. Here a few things you need to know before Iowa takes on Miami of Ohio at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

  • New Bag Policy - If you attended the Back Porch Revival you got a taste of the new bag policy that Iowa is modeling after the NFL. Only small clutch bags about the size of your hand are permitted. Otherwise, you can use a clear plastic bags not exceeded 12 by 12 by 6 inches. If you don't obey, you won't get inside and might miss kickoff.
  • Traffic headaches - Because of the two-year Iowa Gateway project, using Dubuque Street on gameday might be hazardous to your health. The popular gameday path to Kinnick narrows from 4 down to 2 lanes. Pick a different route and ARRIVE EARLY! The upside? Dubuque will turn into one-way traffic after the game to get you to I-80 quickly!
  • More Fun - Tailgating postgame is now UNLIMITED for daytime kickoffs! Beer and wine are permitted in university lots.
  • Fun for the Kids - From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. there is the free Hawkeye Kids Zone on the new practice field next to Duane Banks Field. Enjoy an inflatable obstacle course, Herky, and the Iowa cheerleaders!

The bottom line is that the weather is expected to be perfect and the crowds will be huge. Remember the new rules, arrive early, and GO HAWKS!
