The NCAA tournament selection committee will swear up and down that they don't look ahead at potential matchups. Iowa and Iowa State fans might disagree with that a bit this morning. Yes, both the Hawkeyes and Cyclones have to win 2 games each to make it happen, but, if they do, the two in state rivals would meet in the sweet 16. I'm not sure hoops fans in the state would be able to handle it! But how likely is it?

Iowa opens against the 10 seed Davidson. Certainly a winable game, and one the Hawks should be able to get. After that, things get tougher, with a potential matchup against the number 2 seed Gonzaga. The Zags are in the tourney every year, but lets face it. They are not Duke or Kentucky. Iowa, while they may not be favored has to love the draw.

Iowa State opens against the 14 seed UAB. The Cylones will be favored heavily in this one. Round 2 would feature a game versus either SMU or Steve Alford's UCLA team. I'd take ISU in either matchup. Then, it would be Hawks and Cyclones for a trip to the Elite 8!  In Iowa, that would be basketball heaven. And we haven't even mentioned UNI! The Panthers might have the best chance of all the Iowa schools of making a deep run in the NCAA tourament!
