Iowa certainly didn't shoot its way to victory Wednesday night.  The Hawkeyes used great defense and hustled their way to a 60-55 win over #12 North Carolina in the Big 10/ACC Challenge.  Iowa shot just 33% from the field and went 3 of 20 from 3 point range.  Those are totals that get you beat most nights in college basketball.  But not this night.

Former Linn Mar prep Marcus Paige had 13 for the Tar Heels, but was hit with a charging foul late in the game that helped the Hawkeyes seal the win.  Mike Gessell led the Hawks with 16 points.  Center Adam Woodbury also had some big second half baskets.  It had to feel great for those two to get the win over their former AAU teammate Paige. And as much as I hate listening to Dick Vitale, he had a valid point last night.  It was a signature win for the program.  Something selection committee members look at come March.

It's back to the cupcakes for Iowa, as the host Maryland-Baltimore County on Saturday.
