Girls State Basketball Tournament Begins Today In Des Moines

Just as our thoughts turn to spring, the Girls State Basketball Tournament begins today at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Now in the past, the girl's tournament has often coincided with nasty winter weather. No such problem this week. Temperatures will stretch into the 50's today and tomorrow.

Quarterfinal games begin today in class 5A and 4A, and there are plenty of area teams to keep your eyes on. In class 5A, #1 Iowa City High plays West Des Moines Valley at 11:45 a.m. #6 Iowa City West will take on Dowling Catholic at 1:30 p.m.

In class 4A today, #4 Center Point Urbana plays Boone at 5 p.m. Then later tonight, #1 Marion takes on Fairfield at 6:45 p.m.
