As I stood and got ready to leave the Garth Brooks concert Saturday night in Des Moines, I was already trying to put what I'd seen into context. I've seen tons of shows in my life. Many by some of my favorite artists. But none of the them did what Garth did to me Saturday night. I left Wells Fargo Arena uplifted. It was as if I'd just gone to the church of country music, and Garth led the service.

You knew every song. Heck, often times the crowd sang louder than Garth. These were songs that I played countless times on the radio. Songs that, if I can be honest, I probably got tired of playing so much! But to hear a 54-year-old Garth Brooks belt them out as clear as the day he released them made them all seem new again. It made me ashamed I ever doubted the man and his abilities. Sure he is a little older and heavier than he was in his prime, but Garth in 2016 is the most dynamic performer I've ever seen.

Garth made everyone feel like they had a front row seat. He waved and pointed the whole night to people up close and far away. He gave high fives and read signs. He connected with the audience the way only Garth can. He also feeds off a crowd like no one I've ever seen. Can you blame him? How on earth he is pulling off 6 shows in 5 days is beyond me. How many other performers HALF of Garth's age try that? Can you name me one? Because I'm not coming up with any!

Tuesday night, Garth will play his final Iowa show of this tour. Chances are he'll be back again. The success of this tour has proven that we can't get enough. Nearly 90,000 people will have seen him once his show is over Tuesday. I firmly believe that what I saw this weekend will be remembered as legendary. We'll be telling our kids and grandkids about the greatest show we ever saw. I told my kids about it this weekend. His name is Garth. He is the best country music has ever seen. Preach on Garth.
