School is out for the summer, and for some kids that means one or two meals per day that they can no longer depend on. To help students who might be in that situation, many schools in the Corridor are offering free meals for students who need them.

The meals are funded federally through The Summer Food Service program. The free meals are available on a first come first serve basis. The program is expected to serve more than 200 million meals to kids across the nation, including over 400 here in Iowa.

In Cedar Rapids, a free meal site opens today at Grant Wood Elementary school located at 645 26th Street SE. Breakfast is served from 8:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. and lunch will be available from noon to 1 p.m. Meals will be available there Monday through Friday through June 29th.

Other free meals sites will also be open later this summer. From June 18th to August 3rd, free meals will also be available at Grant Elementary, Kenwood Elementary, Johnson Elementary, and Taylor Elementary. From June 25th to July 18th meals will also be available at Roosevelt Middle School.
