Police in Missouri are looking into who shot and killed a former University of Northern Iowa football player. The St. Louis Post Dispatch reports that police found 27-year-old Jaz Granderson suffering from a single gunshot wound early Monday morning. He was taken to a local hospital where he died from his injuries.

Granderson played at UNI from 2009 to 2011. He was currently an assistant high school football coach at De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis.

The University of Northern Iowa put out a statement Monday that said in part, "our heartfelt condolences go out to his family."
