In August of 2017 a 4-month-old baby by the name of Sterling Koehn was found dead in a maggot-infested diaper and baby swing. The child's father, Zachary Koehn, has now been found guilty of first-degree murder according to a CBS2 report.

According to autopsy reports the "4-month-old died of malnutrition, dehydration and an E. coli infection caused after he was left in a soiled diaper for up to two weeks. He was only a few ounces more than his birth weight at the time of his death." Zachary Koehn has been held accountable for his son's death, but CBS reports that he has actually put the blame on the baby's mother, Cheyanne Harris. Harris has also been charged with first-degree murder and child endangerment, but she will have a separate trial.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that Koehn was convicted of first-degree murder and child endangerment resulting in death after the jury deliberated for about an hour. With that conviction he would serve a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. The sentencing will take place at a later date.
