A 61-year-old teacher has been charged with making repeated sexual contact with a student.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office in Knoxville has arrested Alan Wesley Stewart of Oskaloosa. He faces a charge of sexual exploitation, which is a Class D felony.

An inappropriate relationship was reported to authorities last month. The investigation confirmed a student from Twin Cedars in Bussey, in southeast Iowa, was the victim of sexual contact, by Stewart, on multiple occasions in 2015. According to the Journal Express, court documents also show, "... gift exchanges, intimate private conversations in his office, private messages and time spent at Stewart's home."

Twin Cedars Community School District released a statement Monday, following Stewart's arrest. In the statement, Superintendent Brian VanderSluis said,

"Monday afternoon, the Marion County Sheriff’s department officers arrested Twin Cedars teacher Alan Stewart on charges of sexual exploitation by a school employee. Mr. Stewart has been placed on administrative leave pending further review and action by the school district. We were not apprised of any concerns before the arrest. We will cooperate fully in the investigation by law enforcement."

The Twin Cedars School District website lists Stewart as an "Industrial Technology" teacher. The Journal Express also says he's a physical education teacher and cross country coach. He's been licensed to teach in Iowa since 1978.
