An Eastern Iowa firefighter died over the weekend in an explosion at the Archer Daniels Midland plant in Clinton. The blast occurred Saturday evening.

The Gazette reported that Lt. Eric Hosette, 33, died Saturday in the incident at the ADM plant in Clinton  Another firefighter, Adam Cain, 23, was in critical but stable condition Saturday night at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City, officials said.

Eric Hosette had been with the Clinton Fire Department for 12 years. Clinton Fire Chief Mike Brown said fire crews were on the scene with assistance from Camanche, Davenport, and Fulton. Clinton City Administrator Matt Brooke said the explosion happened in the third silo at ADM.

The cause of the fire and subsequent explosion remains under investigation and officials say it will take some time to determine exactly what occurred.

We sometimes forget the dangers that come with the job of a firefighter, but sadly we're reminded of that fact today.
