On Monday, July 18th dozens of citizens in Dubuque celebrated officers in a creative manner. Following the recent tragedies in Baton Rouge and Dallas, several people wrote encouraging messages in chalk to help inspire officers as they went in and out of the police department. The "Chalk the Walk" activity included many children and adults teaming up to write their thank you messages outside the precinct to help ease tensions and let officers know that the people they are protecting appreciate them. KCRG covered this story with a brief video viewed here.

Several other #chalkthewalk events have occured throughout the country, where officers have in turn shown appreciation by handing out candy to children and thanking citizens.
