Downtown Cedar Rapids Road Construction Creating Driving Challenges [VIDEO]

I left work one day recently and forgot to take the 4th Avenue exit out of our building's parkade. That one wrong turn can make for a lot of frustration right now. I decided to take you on a quick video tour of the challenges.

Nearly every street and avenue have some type of construction going on right now. Whether it's the re-doing of curbs, replacing underground sewers or street beautification, downtown streets are under a siege of construction. If you're heading out of downtown on one of the avenues, it's honestly not too bad. However, as you'll see in the video above, it's the work on the actual streets that make getting to I-380 a real difficult task.

Yes, one look at downtown Cedar Rapids quickly confirms we're in the heart of construction season. It's also the time of year you have to put a little thought into your plan of attack behind the wheel. As I find most days, a little thinking can save me not only frustration, but time and we all want to save as much of that as possible.
