Downtown Cedar Rapids continues to burst with more and more color. The latest addition is the new colored LED light poles on the 3rd Avenue Bridge, which runs in front of the Linn County Courthouse. They were especially beautiful Friday night when I captured the Alliant Energy building in the background of this video, lit up in pink for Breast Cancer Awareness.

The Alliant Energy building has been lit with many different colors over the last few months. It was red, white, and blue for the 4th of July.

Last month, testing of the new lighting schemes showed onlookers a rainbow of colors.

Last week, as National Breast Cancer Awareness started, a gorgeous pink took over the exterior.

According to the Gazette, the building will be lit for special events and holidays. Green and red for Christmas, perhaps pure white? We'll have to wait and see, I guess.

The Alliant tower isn't the only building featuring outdoor colors. The former Smulekoff's building has been lighting up periodically for a couple of years, to much less fanfare. It's gorgeous, though.

I also love the Black Sheep Social Club, across from the Great America Building on 1st St. East.

You might also see the Metropolitan building and Kingston Commons, both part of Kingston Village on the west side of the river, lit up at any given time. I would bet more and more buildings will join this illumination beautification of downtown Cedar Rapids.
