The United States and the entire world it seems is in turmoil. Thursday night, Americans sought comfort by their televisions in massive numbers. They sat down together to watch a movie about love and faith, based largely on real events. The movie? Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors on NBC.

Dolly herself was the executive producer of the movie, which starred country music's own Jennifer Nettles. It was seen by more than 13 million people, making it the most watched movie on television (made for television or theatrical) in four years! According to Variety, it's the largest non-sports audience for NBC in that time slot since Carrie Underwood in The Sound of Music Live two years ago. Excluding live programming, the movie also gave the network its biggest Thursday (8-10 pm central) ratings since the finale of ER in April of 2009. You talk about being in select company.

Leading up to its airing, Dolly Parton's Coat of Many Colors drew comparisons to Little House on the Prairie. Here in 2015 with all the craziness surrounding us, it's clearly exactly what we were yearning for.

If you missed it, you can see the trailer below and the entire movie at the bottom. It will be available for 25 days.
