I had to make a stop at a large Cedar Rapids box store on my way home last night. Unfortunately, so did a VERY loud, vulgar woman.

I was briskly walking through the stores' aisles practicing my well-rehearsed shopping motto, "Get it and go," when I ran across her. She was a probably mid-20's woman who was on the phone with someone she was clearly very unhappy with. Every other word seemed to be something I'd immediately lose my job over if said on KHAK & frankly I'd never use that language in a public place, ever. It almost seems that when you encounter these type of people their volume level goes up even more. Do they enjoy an audience? It certainly seems like it.

I understand we all get angry sometimes but I can't for the life of me understand why people believe that we want or should ever have to hear that type of thing in a public place. Whether there are kids around or not, and there were, I don't think there's a place for it. If that type of language is absolutely vital to getting a point across, then you would hope they'd either find a more private place to handle it or turn down the volume. I think we'd all appreciate either one.

Thank you for reading. I'll get down off my soapbox now.
