David Nail has found his songwriting counterpart. The singer continues to rely on Jonathan Singleton to help him create country music magic, from "Let It Rain" to "Red Light" and Nail's latest single, "Nights on Fire." During a recent visit to our ToC Nights studio, Nail explained the interesting process.

"Nights on Fire" will appear on his forthcoming album. He co-wrote the song with Singleton, who he has worked with many times in the past, but Singleton also contributed his voice to the song — he's responsible for those beautiful "whoas" in the beginning, as well as some harmonies.

“Like I do them with the rest of the band kind of as a group but when it came time to record it, I called Jonathan and said, ‘Hey man, on the demo who did the whoas?’ He goes, ‘I’m pretty sure I did’ and I said ‘Well, I’m gonna need you to come in here and do ‘em,'" Nail explains. "Jonathan sings tremendously high and he’s a fantastic singer. He’s got a very unique voice. I wanted him to sing the harmony part with me … He knew the part and he could do it very effortlessly.”

Even though they've worked together a lot, Nail admits writing with Singleton can be a little "difficult." “We both have ADD like nobody’s business. You get both of us in a room together it’s very hard to get us on the same page and sittin’ down at the same time,” he relates. Nevertheless, Nail says Singleton is a "wonderful talent." The two grew up around the same area, and they have a lot in common.

There's no release date for Nail's forthcoming album just yet, but he did give us a hint..

“Hopefully sometime in early 2016," the singer says. "This record I’m really excited about. It was a spur of the moment record. I had no intentions of making a record this year.”
