We all know that random acts of kindness happen everyday in the Corridor, but it's not often that they are captured on camera.

But that's exactly what happened yesterday at the Marion Hy-Vee store when a customer came up a bit short on cash and was quickly helped by Marion Police Captain  Slagle, who was waiting in line at the checkout lane.

CBS2 News reporter Nick Weig shared the story (and a photo of the transaction) on the TV station's website of the thoughtful cop who offered to pitch in to cover the difference.

It may seem to be a small thing to the officer, but we all have been there at one time or another, needing a little thing and having a stranger come to the rescue.

It's moments like these that reaffirm our faith in the goodness of our neighbors. And Eastern Iowa is filled with them.
