As we get closer and closer to the end of the year, I finally knocked out a movie that I've been told I need to watch since the day I moved to Iowa!

When I heard about how this movie was about baseball, I had absolutely no interest in watching it. I'm not really into sports movies, but I knew it had to be seen (I am an official Iowan now), so I put it off until now.

Huge mistake. It was SO GOOD.

From the very beginning I was sucked in! To be honest, the start of the flick could definitely be mistaken for a horror film, with all the whispering in the corn field. But, once you get it, then it becomes a little less frightening. I just love that everyone sees ghosts and they're all totally cool with it. Like, "dad, there's a man in your field," and he just goes out there and starts playing baseball with a dead guy like it's no big deal. I just like that none of the family members even questioned it, it made it easier for the person watching (me) to question it less.

My favorite scene in the whole movie is when Ray's wife Annie freaks out on the woman at the town meeting. "All right, Beulah, do you want to step outside?" and, "at least he is not a book-burner, you Nazi cow," were some of the best quotes. I was actually laughing out loud. Annie ended up being one of my favorite characters, along with Terence Mann. At first I thought Terence was a total jerk, but he definitely redeemed himself. Never in a million years would I have gone with Ray after he busted his way into my apartment and started spewing nonsense. He was one brave dude.

My question is, did Terence die? When the baseball players asked him to come with him, was that him passing on into the after life? That was my immediate assumption, but after Googling it I found that the internet has alllll types of theories. Apparently the writers of the movie have never actually officially said what happened, so we are left speculating. Bummer.

And before you ask, YES, I DID cry. More than once! Especially at the end. True story, I didn't know that the end was the end. I thought there was going to be some sort of major baseball game with a bunch of people and they would raise the money to keep the farm and we would all end the movie feeling satisfied that everything worked out. I'm kind of glad I was wrong. I like that they ended the movie with just him and his dad playing catch and just alluded to the fact that everything was going to end well (with all those cars pulling up). It made me cry even more when I realized it was over!

I need just THREE more movies to watch to finish up the year (one of them will definitely be "The Godfather"), so feel free to leave your suggestions below!
