If you're a lover of sci-fi thrillers like Alien, The Goonies, and Poltergeist, you're going to love it, too.

For the past few weeks, I've been seeing all these extremely positive reviews about a new show that was recently released to Netflix. Being the Netflix junkie that I am, I of course had to see what all the fuss was about. Luckily, I had no plans this weekend, because I ended up watching the whole first season in one sitting. It was THAT GOOD. If you're looking for something new to watch, you need to check out Stranger Things.

When I say that I've binge-watched a lot of shows, I really mean it. I've binge-watched a LOT of shows. That's why when I say this was one of my favorites of all time, that's a statement that carries a lot of weight. It's been a long time since I've spent eight straight hours on my couch (minus a few hours of sleep before finishing the last two episodes), but once I started I couldn't stop. It was mysterious, thrilling, and just overall entertaining.

"When a young boy disappears, his mother, a police chief, and his friends must confront terrifying forces in order to get him back."

That's IMDb's summary of the show, which is set in the early 80s. It pulls from all sorts of classics, like Poltergeist, Stand By Me, E.T., The Goonies, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Alien, and others. There's a wonderful nostalgic feeling you get when you watch the show. I would also like to note that the music is freaking awesome. Super creepy! Here's the theme song if you want to know what I'm talking about:

I was also amazed at the quality of acting in this show, especially by the kids. They all did a great job, but I was especially impressed by Millie Bobby Brown, who plays Eleven (aka "El'). She gave such a powerful performance, which is hard to do when you barely speak. I also very much enjoyed Winona Ryder as the grief-stricken mother Joyce Byers. Her acting was so convincing that there were a few times when she alone made me cry. I hope she wins some awards for this.

If you have watched the show and you loved it as much as I did, then you'll be happy to know that Netflix plans on doing a second season. They actually said, "we would be dumb not to." The bad news is, we will probably have to wait awhile. Also, HERE is a scene-by-scene video showing all of the 70's and 80's movie references in the show. If you haven't watched the show yet, I don't recommend watching that video because you'll spoil it for yourself.

So, if you're looking for something new to watch, this is my recommendation. You won't regret it! Just make sure you don't have any plans, because once you start, you won't be able to stop.
