Two area convenience stores were robbed at gunpoint Monday morning, within minutes of one another.

The Iowa City Police Department received a report of an armed robbery at the Kum & Go store at 513 South Riverside Drive at 3:21 Monday morning. The store's clerk reported one man entered the store with a handgun and demanded money. The clerk, who complied, was not injured. The suspect in the robbery was described as a black male wearing a red hoodie and black bandana covering the lower part of his face.

Just minutes later, at 3:30 a.m., Iowa City Police received a second armed robbery report, this one at 1310 South Gilbert Street. This time, the clerk reported two men entered the store. One approached the clerk, displayed a handgun, and demanded money. After the clerk gave money to the suspect the two men fled. Again, the clerk was not injured. The clerk's description of the man who approached him was similar to the one of the man provided by the clerk at the South Riverside Drive Kum & Go. The second suspect was described as a black male dressed entirely in black. Both were slender and average height.
