Cedar Rapids To Iowa City Bus Service Coming Soon

Big news for your corridor commute!

Don't like fighting 380 traffic? Dread road construction and detours? Maybe you don't even have a car to drive. Fear not, you will soon be able to get from Cedar Rapids to Iowa City (and back) by bus.

Just in time for an I-80/380 interchange reconstruction project starting next year, a bus service program spearheaded by the Iowa Department of Transportation takes off on October 1 at 5:20 a.m., according to the Gazette. The IC-to-CR bus will depart from the Ground Transportation Center in downtown Cedar Rapids, and run about every 30 minutes until 10:20 a.m. when it changes to an hourly trip. At 3:20 p.m., it's back to every half hour until the route service day ends at 8:20 p.m. The buses will run straight down 380 en route to Iowa City.

It will make several designated stops along the way, including Kirkwood, Iowa River Landing in Coralville, University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, ending up at Court Street Transportation Center in Iowa City. From there, the world, or at least Iowa City and Coralville, are yours by way of city bus, taxi, Uber, or your own two feet.

Four buses, and one used as a "backup" will accomodate this new route, and will each include restrooms, wi-fi and charging outlets.

At this time, it's said the service will only operate on weekdays, so you're out of luck if you want to hop a bus to Kinnick on gameday. But what a great opportunity for a road trip or transportation to work or school for those who need it.
