Gordon Paulsen, a longtime voice at independent public jazz radio station, 88.3 KCCK-FM in Cedar Rapids, has passed away after a battle with cancer, at the age of 64.

KCCK radio is on the Kirkwood Community College campus, where anyone passing through the halls there was bound to run into him or see him in action. Although KCCK is a small station, Paulsen had a big presence. He stayed at one station for nearly 40 years, unheard of in the radio industry these days.

He was a fixture on the airwaves at the jazz station from 1979 until his retirement in 2017, and had the classic radio voice that everyone in the business wanted to emulate and aspire to, with an unparalleled knowledge of the music he played.

Our sincerest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Gordon Paulsen. His celebration of life will take place this Saturday, April 14 at 11 a.m. at Turner Hall in Keystone, Iowa.
