[ORIGINAL STORY] A fire in a garage in southwest Cedar Rapids this morning has led to a suspicious death investigation.

According to media releases from the Cedar Rapids Police Department, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department and police officers were called to 1814 I St S.W. at 7:34 Sunday morning. Neighbors reportedly heard a loud boom and then saw the two-stall detached garage at that address on fire. When firefighters and police officers arrived the building was fully engulfed.

A Cedar Rapids police officer pulled an adult female from the garage fire. Emergency medical care was given to the woman on the scene. She was then taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Her identity has not been released, pending notification of relatives.

Cedar Rapids Police say the woman's death is considered suspicious and the investigation continues. Iowa's State Medical Examiner's Office will do an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of her death.

We'll update this story when more information becomes available.
