Following Thursday's arrest of a juvenile in the shooting death of a Cedar Rapids teenager over the weekend, Cedar Rapids police are now investigating another death in the city last night.

Cedar Rapids police report being called to a disturbance and possible shots fired last evening in the 1000 block of G Avenue Northwest just after 8 pm. When they arrived, officers found a 32-year old man had been shot. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital and died during surgery. His death is now being investigated as a homicide.

The Cedar Rapids Police Department doesn't believe last night's shooting was a random act or that there is a risk to the public. Cedar Rapids Police Chief Wayne Jerman made the following statement: "We appreciate the many people who continue to express their support for the police department and have provided information to help us solve these crimes. Last night's homicide was not a random act. In many violent incidents, there is a pattern of risky behavior, including association with convicted criminals and participating in criminal activity, which jeopardizes personal safety. The Police Department will continue to be diligent in promoting safe neighborhoods by assigning additional police officers to the streets, increasing officer visibility, enhancing outreach efforts, and utilizing other non-conventional methods."
