The Cedar Rapids Police Protective Association has been helping children in need through the Santa Cop program for over 10 years! This program provides local children in need with warms clothes and other items during the holiday season. The Cedar Rapids Protective Police Charity raises money year-round for this event and is running it this year on December 6 from 2-8 p.m. at the Target on Blairs Ferry Road.

Roughly 10-15 officers will take local kids in need on a $100 shopping spree just in time for Christmas! After children are checked in they will be assigned to an officer and off they go to spend the $100 on warm clothing for the season. And if there's any money left over, they'll get a toy too!

Not only do the kids get to go shopping, but this program provides a fun and stress-free environment for the kids to communicate (some for the first time) with a police officer.

100% of the proceeds collected through the charity will go towards the Santa Cop event, so even the smallest donations matter. A $5 donation could buy one child a warm winter hat. If you'd like to donate to the Santa Cop program, cash will be accepted at any Cedar Rapids Collins Community Credit Union, checks can be made to the Cedar Rapids Police Department or the Cedar Rapids Police Protective Charity, or you can donate online/get details on the event at crpolicecharity.com.

There's nothing more warming to the heart than knowing kids right here in our local community will be warm this winter thanks to your wonderful donations and some of Cedar Rapids' finest.
