Former Cedar Rapids Washington prep A.J. Puk could make history tonight. Puk, currently a pitcher for the Florida Gators could become the first Iowa native to be drafted number one overall in the Major League Baseball draft. Puk and several other teammates and family members from Iowa are gathering tonight in Florida to see where the 6 foot 7 left-hander goes.

Puk was invited by MLB to be on hand for tonight's first round but declined as he and his teammates are preparing for a weekend series against rival Florida State. The Philadelphia Phillies have the first overall pick and are said to be considering Puk and two to three other prospects.

No player from Iowa has ever been selected number one overall. Jeff Clement from Marshalltown was drafted #3 overall by Seatle back in 2005. The first round of the draft can be seen tonight on the MLB network beginning at 5pm Iowa time.
