Cedar Rapids Metro Teams Moving On In Football Playoffs

It was a good night for Cedar Rapids metro teams as the high school football playoffs got underway across the state. In class 4A, Cedar Rapids Jefferson made history, posting their first playoff win since 1992. The J-Hawks defeated Dubuque Senior 61-43, thanks to 49 second half points. Jeff moves on to the second round which will be played on Monday.

Also in class 4A, Cedar Rapids Kennedy had no problems with Clinton in a 59-0 rout. The 3rd ranked Cougars also move on to round 2. Top-ranked Cedar Rapids Washington had a much tougher test in round one. After trailing at halftime, the Warriors rallied for a 28-21 win over Cedar Falls at Kingston Stadium.

In class 3A, number 2 ranked Cedar Rapids Xavier also survived a scare. The Saints needed a late defensive stand to hold on to a 14-7 win over Waverly Shell-Rock.
