Cedar Rapids Fire Might Cause Problems for Area Renters

Earlier this morning, Cedar Rapids firefighters were sent to a check out an alarm going off inside the offices of High Property Management.  By the time the fire was put out, the property was deemed a total loss. Luckily, there were no injuries, as no one was in the building. However, the loss has left some area renters with concerns.

According to Greg Buelow, Public Safety Communications Coordinator for Cedar Rapids, an alarm inside the building at 1100 Old Marion Rd NE was activated at about 6:10am this morning.  Employees arriving on the scene quickly called 911 after seeing smoke inside the building.  By the time firefighters arrived at 6:22, they could see smoke coming from three sides of the building.  About 45 minutes later, they discovered visible flames from the roof of the north side of the building, which was a maintenance and storage area, which housed appliances, furnaces, and other items needed for their rental properties. After the fire was put out, firefighters assisted employees with removing computers and other electronics. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

If you rent from High Property Management, what does this mean for you?  Will there be delays in getting things repaired?  Did they lose your rent check or rent agreement? Can you expect to see your rent increase in the next couple months?  We spoke to one of their renters who had called the office with similar concerns.  They were reportedly told that there is nothing to worry about, and that nothing would be changing.  There were assured there'd be no delays on maintenance issues or changes in rent.

We've reached out High Property's offices directly to try and get more information, but unfortunately, they have no comment at this time.  They plan to release a statement tomorrow that we will get you updated on ASAP.  They also recommended we follow them on Facebook to get the latest information.
