According to the latest data, poverty is more prevalent in the U.S. than at any point in the past 10 years. It's especially true in big cities. New York, Chicago and San Francisco have seen the number of people in poverty and the poverty rate increase every year since 2005. But some communities are bucking the national trend.

SmartAsset looked at 370 metropolitan areas across the United States. Using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, they found cities where the poverty rate has fallen every year since 2005. Cedar Rapids came in #3! According to the study, Cedar Rapids benefits from very low unemployment. The city has seen the number of people in poverty fall by 4,000 since 2005. That's a decline of 15.5%, among the highest in the nation!

The survey also found that poverty is rising fastest in big cities, and in the state of California, where the major metro areas haven't seen ANY decrease in the past decade. Just another reason why it's great to live in Eastern Iowa!
