Bookworms and historians of Cedar Rapids are getting their time in the limelight next week.

According to local historian Mark Stoffer-Hunter there is a "tremendous hidden history of Cedar Rapids", and it will be on display as Mediacom and the C-SPAN television networks are teaming up for a "week-long visit to record the history and non-fiction literary life of the city".

They will "visit various literary and historic sites, interview local historians, non-fiction authors and conduct educational and community outreach in Cedar Rapids". It will all take place next week, February 17th – 21st.

A kickoff reception is being held with refreshments and music followed by remarks and program announcement Tuesday, February 19th at Cedar Rapids Public Library's Whipple Auditorium, 450 5th Ave. SE from 5-6:30 p.m. At the reception, they will talk more about the programs CSPAN will be recording in Cedar Rapids.

Iowa Representative Abby Finkenauer will speak as will Stoffer-Hunter, mayor Brad Hart, and other local dignitaries.

C-SPAN will air their series on Cedar Rapids during the weekend of March 15-17 on the shows "Book TV" (C-SPAN2 at 11 a.m. on the 16th) and "American History TV" (C-SPAN3 at 1 p.m on the 17th). An interview with mayor Hart will also air on CSPAN on the 15th.
