Several businesses during the previous week's flood could not escape the waters. In order to construct HESCO barriers in NewBo, a flat area was needed. And though many homes and businesses were saved, it was most convenient to put up barriers in an area that cut several off.

Tornado's Grub and Pub is around 20 feet from the HESCO barrier that kept the NewBo district dry. KCRG reports that owner Tom Slaughter still insists that the city could have included ALL occupied buildings in that zone. Even though his business was on the wrong side of the barrier, the flooding was kept to a minimum with some water in the basement. Tornado's has been able to open back up. Perhaps a permanent solution to all of this is in our future, and we can use this as a lesson to help even more people.
