Brett Young recently kicked off his 2018 headlining CMT on Tour: Here Tonight trek, and though it's one of his first stints as a tour boss, the country singer says he's picked up plenty of pointers from some of the genre's hottest artists. In fact, his experiences out on the road with acts such as Lady Antebellum and Thomas Rhett taught him one very important thing.

"I've been fortunate to be out with really good people," Young explains, "and the thing you really notice when the headliner's a good person is how that trickles down -- how important that is for the whole camp and the whole tour to run smoothly."

On tour with Rhett, Young says he quickly realized how the demeanor of a tour boss affects everyone around him. "Thomas is a sweetheart, and his family's incredible, and everybody that works for him, they mirror that," he goes on to say. "It makes my life as an opener, as direct support, that much better, knowing what to expect. If you know Thomas, and you know who he is and what he stands for, you know you can expect that from everybody else."

Going into a headlining tour of his own, Young says that he has studied much of Rhett's behavior during shows, especially his confidence as a performer; however, the most important lesson he's learned is how to set a positive, teamwork-oriented tone offstage.

"I think, going into this tour at the end of the year and being a headliner, I'm aware now of that responsibility," he adds.
