My birthday is coming up on Friday. 42 years old and right in the middle of an awakening of sorts. I've suddenly discovered that the old stuff is often times better than the new stuff. I began collecting vinyl records earlier this year. There's just something about vinyl. The warmth of the sound. The history behind the album. The artwork in the album cover. How about stereo systems? I had a newer model that I used for awhile, but I jumped at the chance to go to a 1970's Kenwood receiver recently. Why? Sound quality. The only 'new' pieces I have in my system is my Audio Technica turntable and some nice Polk speakers. Maybe someday when my pay grade advances, I can invest in a vintage player.

My wife Holly knew that I wanted to properly display my equipment. Hey, I shelled out some good dollars for this stuff! So my early birthday gift was a restored antique dresser. It has a distressed black finish, with a burnt wood finish on top. Talk about tying everything together.

Call it a midlife crisis, call it whatever you want. But sometimes the old stuff really is better than anything you can buy new. Crap....I'm beginning to sound like my father.
