Nothing lasts forever. It's one of the things you have to realize when you're a home owner. Eventually, you'll have to replace things. And the timing of when things stop working will NEVER be convenient. This past weekend during my daughter Carly's birthday party, I went to get ice cream out of the freezer. What I found was that our side by side fridge was dead.

Holly sprang to action right away. She called for coolers and ice so we could begin pulling things from our fridge. We have a chest freezer in our basement so frozen goods were covered. Most of the fridge, however, was now in three coolers. The next step? Getting the old fridge out! Our wonderful neighbors were right by our side and helped clean out the old fridge, take the doors off so it would fit through the front door, and haul it out to the curb. By the time this was done, it was nearly 8 p.m. Saturday night. We needed a fridge fast. It was time to power shop.

The main trouble with our home is that it is older, and it just isn't made to haul in today's modern appliances. We had limited space to get a new fridge in, but we measured and we were confident that a fridge with a depth of less that 32 inches would work. We found ONE fridge that a store had in stock that fit that description. We loaded it up into a neighbors truck and headed home to our house at nearly 9 p.m. After an unloading process that nearly killed us, we lined up the fridge to come in the door. One problem. It wasn't going to fit. It wasn't even close. We tried several different angles but it wouldn't budge. So back into the truck went the fridge and our search would have to wait until Sunday. Time to go buy more ice.

After we took the first fridge back for a refund, which we got no questions asked, Holly notified me of a fridge that she had found online. It was only one year old and the couple simply didn't have the room for it in their kitchen. Plus...it was hundreds less than the other fridge. So off we went to haul home a fridge. This time, though, the measurements were correct and it slid right in the front door and into our kitchen. Let the unpacking of coolers begin!

I honestly don't know how we could have got through this past weekend without the help of our great neighbors. You just don't realize how great your friends are until you really need them. They didn't ask questions. They just stepped in and did what we needed them to. So to Dawn, Phil, and Matt....thank you, thank you , thank you, thank you!! I owe you all more beers than I can count. At least now, they're on ice.
