Do you want to see a sign that the end of days is near? Take a look at the above picture. My kids and some neighbor kids inside my house. All of them are on hand held electronic devices. All on a day when it was sunny and 79 degrees outside. Soon after snapping this picture I launched into 'Old Man Mode' and chastised them for not playing outside when the weather is this nice. Go ride your bike or scooter! Play catch in the backyard! Play on the swings! Their response? "Hang on Dad...this is really cool...we're all playing on the same server in the same world!" Too bad it isn't the real world.

I'm not against technology. I have an iPad and an iPhone and a Kindle. I love streaming movies and shows online. But I know that there is something else out there. I am old enough that I remember life without those things. Growing up we didn't even have cable TV! We had 4 channels to choose from and NO internet. What did I do? I played outside. I used my imagination. I too made imaginary worlds, but they weren't on a computer server.

My kids aren't always on their electronic devices. They do play outside a lot with their friends. My two girls can play for hours with their dolls and I laugh at the situations they put their characters in. And yes, sometimes as a parent it's easy to just sit back and let technology watch your kids for you. I'm guilty of it too from time to time. But after I looked at the picture I took, and then saw how nice it was outside, I intervened. Remind your kids what life is like off of the internet. They might be surprised just how interactive it is.
