There is no doubt that the television show Breaking Bad is not for kids.  So this week, when it was revealed that the Toys R Us store chain would be carrying toys based on characters from the popular show, some people objected.  Why would you sell items from a tv show about drugs in a toy store?  I see the situation a bit differently.

We all want to protect our children from dangers, and drugs are definately one of those dangers.  But will pulling these toys out of stores really acomplish that?  What ever happened to the duties of a parent?  If my child came up to me and wanted a Breaking Bad action figure, I have a simple way to solve the problem.  Tell them "No".  Explain to them why they shouldn't want to act like someone from the show.  Educate them on the evils of drugs.  Be a parent!  Why leave it up to Toys R Us to do what you as a parent should be preaching everyday.

This topic hits close to home for me, as I am a parent, and a huge fan of Breaking Bad.  But as big of a fan as I am of the show, my job as a parent is far more important.  So while I may eventually have a Walter White action figure in my office at work, I can guarantee you my kids won't have one in their toy box at home.  Speaking of Walter White, actor Bryan Cranston responded via twitter yesterday to a mother petitioning to have the toys taken out of stores.

Well said Heisenburg.
