As I sat and watched the grand jury decision that was about to be handed down last night in Ferguson Missouri, I wondered the same thing the rest of country was wondering.  What was it going to take to NOT see violence on the streets.  Would any charges be enough?  When it was announced that NO charges would be filed, the events that followed surprised no one.

I'm not going to pretend to understand either side of the arguement in Ferguson.  But what I can react to is the response to the decision.  The right to peacfully protest is an important part of our nation's history.  But nothing gives you the right to violently burn cars, buildings and harm others.  By doing so, you become worse that any potential injustice that you're protesting.  Suddenly, the attention of the nation turns NOT on yesterday's decision, but to the horrible acts being committed in the city streets.

Despite that violence last night in Ferguson, there were many peaceful protests around the country.  Those are the people that the spotlight should be on.  They're drawing attention to the situation, not themselves.  But the media grabs onto the extreme.  We're bound to see more footage of broken windows and burnt cars in the coming days. Here's hoping that peace, and calm will eventually rule.  That is where answers and healing will come from.  Not from the violence.
