My parents dropped off 3 boxes full of vinyl last week. They told me right away that they didn't care what I kept, and what I got rid off. I don't even have a record player yet so I can't even play the good stuff! Going through the piles of records was fun though. It gave me a glimpse into the musical favorites of my parents so many years ago.

Now mixed in with my parents records, were a few that my dad's parents had purchased too. There were lots of Henry Mancini albums and soundtracks to top musicals like South Pacific. But then, there were the albums that my parents grew up on. My dad was really into the surfer music. Jan and Dean, The Beach Boys. I remember listening to a little bit of it when I was young. One of my favoirte albums of my dads isn't musical. It's the first comedy album I ever listened to. The Button Down Mind of Bob Newhart. Look it up and listen to the bit about the driving instructor. Hilarious. Another treasure I found was the Galveston album by Glen Campbell. I'm a huge fan and this is a record I'll treasure forever.

Among my mom's records, I found a couple of Beatles albums. A Hard Day's Night and Rubber Soul. It got me wondering if my mom listened to anything in between those two albums. Where was The White Album? Abbey Road? Questions for another day. One artist I know my mom was really into was Neil Diamond. She had all of his albums. Maybe this explains my love for his song 'America', which I've been known to belt out at kareoke. Another classic that I love is John Denver's greatest hits album. I'm a huge John Denver fan and this record has all of his big hits.

It was fun to go through and look at all the album covers. Some were simple, others were elaborate works of art! It's no wonder many people, including myself, are gettin back into vinyl!
