Brain & Courtlin Do Two Concerts in One Weekend [VIDEOS]

Dan + Shay and Alan Jackson were in Cedar Rapids this weekend, and we were lucky enough to be able to attend both shows!

This weekend was one for the books! It’s not very often that a country artist performs here in Cedar Rapids, but to have two in one weekend? That’s pretty darn rare! To be able to attend two concerts less than 10 minutes away from my house was freaking awesome.

So let’s start with Friday night. The whole KHAK crew went over to Mount Mercy University for their first ever concert in the parking lot. The weather was flawless for an outdoor show, and Dan + Shay were too. We weren’t sure if there was going to be an opening act, so we were pleasantly surprised to find out that there was, AND that he was AWESOME. His name was Jared Mahone and he’s not a country artist, but his voice is incredible and he’s really good at beat-boxing. If you want to give him a listen, you can check out his YouTube channel HERE.

Dan + Shay came on right around 8:30 and played until about 10 until 9. They did all of their radio hits, including “From the Ground Up,” “How Not To,” and “19 You + Me,” some other songs from their albums, AND a few really fun, non-country covers. Those covers were “You Give Love a Bad Name” by Bon Jovi, “Mr. Brightside” by the Killers, and “Forget You” by CeeLo Green. I was amazed by the power in Shay’s voice and how it never wavered the entire show. When he did part of the song “Obsessed,” I just about died. It was SO GOOD. Here’s a quick video from Friday night of my favorite Dan + Shay song “Already Ready:”

Saturday night was the bigger of the two shows – ALAN JACKSON at the US Cell Center! We had been looking forward to the concert for a very long time and Alan did NOT disappoint. First of all, though, I have to give a shout out to Le Ann Womack for her opening performance. Her voice is just so… BEAUTIFUL. There was one song in particular where it took my breath away, and I believe it was called “Never Again, Again.” I LOVED IT.

Alan Jackson was even better than I imagined he would be. He’s in his late 50s now, but he still sounds just as great as all of his recordings. He did every single song that I was hoping he would, including “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning),” which brought my friend to tears. I loved that the show was so laid back and that the guys on stage genuinely seemed to be having as much fun as the audience. By the way, his band was HUGE. At one point I counted 9 people total, all playing instruments. Personally, I thought the bassist looked like Sam Elliott, but quite a few people disagree with me. My favorite song of the night was my favorite Alan Jackson song, which is “Good Time.” You just can’t go wrong with the classics! Here’s a snippet of the song from Saturday evening:

If you attended either of these concerts, we want to know what your favorite part of the show was! Share your thoughts in the comments.
