I've always been a defender of the different sub genres of country music. Whether you like the more pop leaning country of artists like Sam Hunt, or you like things more traditional like the king, George Strait, country has you covered. One of my favorite country artists is Kacey Musgraves. She is a younger artist, but has modeled her sound of country stars of the past. It's as traditional sounding as it gets. But song writing is her strong suit. Her lyrics are meaningful, topical and not afraid to push the boundaries. Her 2013 album 'Same Trailer Different Park' is one of my all time favorite country albums. In June of this year we finally get the follow up. 'Pageant Material' will hit stores June 23rd.

Kacey hasn't had a ton of radio airplay and that is something I hope changes. Songs like 'Merry Go Round' and 'Blowin Smoke' saw some radio time, but not enough in my opinion. Country radio needs to do a better job at embracing a diversity of sounds, and Kacey Musgraves is a perfect example of that. Her new single is 'Biscuits', and is currently climbing the charts. Hopefully it gets to the top. Music like hers deserves to be heard.
