Go ahead. Call me old. Tell me to get in off the porch. I'm against fans storming the court after a basketball game. There, I said it. At one point in my life, I actually stormed a field after a game. It was back in high school, and our football team beat a team from a much larger school in overtime. But it was a football field. There was plenty of room for the handful of students who decided to make their charge. Fast forward to today's college basketball atmosphere. We've had several instances in the past week of fans storming the court after a big win. I get it, you're happy your team won. But the scene that follows can be frightening and dangerous for many. Often the opposing team and coach can't even get off the court before rabid fans are in their face. A Kansas State student was recently charged after slamming into a Kansas player following a court storming. Kansas coach Bill Self had to be rescued from the crush of students at the scorer's table. What is it going to take for this behavior to be outlawed? Certain conferences already have rules in place, including the SEC. When will others follow? Will it take a serious injury to a player or coach to get people's attention? Make storming the court illegal, and do it before someone gets hurt. And one more thing....get off my lawn!
