I love made-up weather terminology. "Polar Vortex" is now joined by "Bomb Cyclone." This one is a disturbance in the Arctic which has much of the U.S. bracing for a cold week. While we will escape the 12" + snowfall of Minnesota, Wisconsin and the U. P. of Michigan, Iowa will see a plunging temperatures starting tonight.

After a balmy 62F today, Here's how the rest of the week looks in Eastern Iowa:

Tonight A chance of rain before 3am, then a chance of snow. Cloudy, with a low around 29. Blustery, with a south wind 5 to 10 mph becoming northwest 15 to 20 mph in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Veterans Day A 20 percent chance of snow before noon. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 35. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tuesday Night Mostly cloudy, with a low around 17.

Wednesday Mostly sunny, with a high near 29.

Wednesday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.

Thursday Partly sunny, with a high near 30.

Thursday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 14.

Friday Mostly sunny, with a high near 29.

Friday Night Partly cloudy, with a low around 16.

NORMAL HIGH: 48.

Weather wimps: take cover!

I can't wait to play in the snow and do some ice bicycling. Yes, it's the most wonderful time of the year. Unless you're a weather wimp. In that case, we'll be hearing you complain until April. Ear muffs on.
